Research — Recherches

My primary research activities are concerned with collecting fieldwork data and describe the endangered Ryukyuan languages. My work has focussed on Miyako and Dunan (Yonaguni), two Southern Ryukyuan languages, and I am currently working on a reference grammar of Dunan.

I am also actively working on the comparison of the Ryukyuan languages with (Old) Japanese, and on the reconstruction of their common ancestor.

I am also intested in the Ainu language, especially its morphosyntax and the problems of reconstruction.

From time to time, I aso work on Mainland Japanese dialects, and sometimes on Modern Standard Japanese.

Below is a map of the different locations where I have been doing fieldwork.
